Anyone looking to buy toys and collectible figures online will find a wide selection for children, teenagers and adult fans. Alongside LEGO sets, plush toys and model cars, the range also includes blind-box figures, Sylvanian Families figures and themed collectible sets. However, the product description alone is not always enough to make the right purchasing decision.
As a Joybuy Product Recommendation Officer, I filter the most important details and explain what parents, relatives and collectors in Germany should look out for.
Many collectible figures and construction sets contain small parts. This applies, for example, to LEGO Marvel, LEGO Minecraft, LEGO Fortnite, blind-box figures and miniature figures. An age recommendation of 3+ does not mean that every product is suitable for younger children. The manufacturer’s information and the actual use under supervision are what matter.
Products containing parts that could be swallowed are generally unsuitable for children under 3. Even with toys rated for ages 3+, direct supervision may be advisable for children between 3 and 5. Safety information on the packaging and product page should be checked before purchase.

This can be appealing to collectors, but it is not ideal when a specific figure is wanted as a gift. If you need a particular design, choose a figure that can be selected individually or opt for a complete set.
A highly detailed collectible set may be designed for display rather than regular, unrestricted play. The LEGO Fortnite 77078 Mecha Team Leader, for example, stands 45 cm tall and contains 2,503 pieces. It therefore requires sufficient display space in a child’s room. According to the product information, the LEGO Pokémon set and LEGO Fortnite 77078 Mecha Team Leader are intended for fans aged 18 and over, while other sets are designed for children aged 9, 10 or 12 and above.
The EN 71 mark refers to a relevant European toy-safety standard. However, it does not replace checking the individual age recommendation or specific safety warnings.
Figures are commonly made from ABS plastic, PVC, metal, polyester or blended materials. For everyday practicality, the care instructions are just as important as the material itself.

Machine washing or tumble drying can damage the shape, filling and surface. Plastic and LEGO models can generally be cleaned with a dry or slightly damp cloth. Piece count is a useful comparison point, but it does not by itself indicate whether a product is suitable for a particular age group. LEGO Minecraft 21589 Mini Biomes contains 797 pieces and five removable biomes. The LEGO Marvel Epic Battle: Avengers: Doomsday building set comprises 846 pieces and features a movable Sentinel figure standing over 25 cm tall.
For younger children, smaller figure sets such as Sylvanian Families figures or farm toys with a limited number of accessories may be easier to manage. For teenagers and adult fans, LEGO collector sets, model cars and themed display models offer an experience focused more strongly on building and showcasing.

Start by checking the age recommendation, safety warnings, material, dimensions and included contents. With blind-box products, it should also be clear that the design is selected at random. For gifts, it is also worth considering the recipient’s interests and existing collection.
