Soft toys are gifts, playmates, home décor and collectables all rolled into one. The range stretches from classic stuffed animals to large plush toys, licensed character figures and randomly assorted blind boxes. Yet it's precisely this huge variety that can make choosing one feel overwhelming.
Three common pitfalls crop up time and again:
When buying a cuddly toy for children, the age recommendation on the product page and packaging should match the child's age. Button eyes, plastic parts, glitter appliqués, small beads or removable accessories can pose a choking hazard.
Blind box products from JOTOYS are not recommended for children under three years of age, according to the product details. For the 52TOYS NINNIC series, the product information additionally includes a warning for children under eight. These items are therefore better suited to older children under supervision, teenagers, adults or soft toys for collecting.
Even with classic stuffed animals, it's a good idea to check them regularly. Loose seams, damaged stuffing or plastic parts that are coming away are all reasons to stop using the product.
The material information should be as specific as possible. Polyester plush, polyester filling, PVC or plastic elements are commonly used. However, the material alone doesn't tell you whether a stuffed toy is suitable for the washing machine.
Examples from our selection:
If a soft toy is taken out every day or used by young children, it's worth checking the care instructions against how you plan to use it before you buy.
A small stuffed animal around 12 to 20 cm fits in a rucksack, on a shelf or on a desk. A cuddly toy measuring 25 to 35 cm is better suited as a portable companion, bed decoration or collectable. Large plush toys from around 90 cm upwards, on the other hand, need plenty of display and storage space.
A simple comparison can help you decide:
Why this product suits the profile: The figures, around 12 to 14 cm tall, are compact and work well as a small gift, desk decoration or a starting point for a collection.
The product information clearly states the random selection. Buyers therefore don't expect a specific design and can plan for the blind box element in advance.

We've put together a full, regularly updated list of products that meet these strict selection criteria and fully comply with EU safety regulations.
A soft toy will generally stay looking good for longer if it's treated according to the care instructions. Washable models should not be cleaned at a higher temperature than stated, and must be dried completely. Non-washable plush figures can be wiped down with a slightly damp cloth. Direct heat, naked flames and prolonged dampness can damage polyester fibres, filling or plastic parts.
For collectables, a dry, dust-free spot away from direct sunlight is best. With plush figures that have tags, glitter or small accessories, you should check regularly that all parts are securely attached. It's not possible to give a general shelf life in years, as use, cleaning and storage all affect the condition.
That depends mainly on the child's age and how the toy will be used. For younger children, clearly labelled, larger models without loose small parts are the obvious choice. For older children, character figures, collectables or blind box plush figures can also work well. Always check the age recommendation and any warnings before buying.
For taking out and about, around 15 to 25 cm is practical. Models around 30 to 35 cm have more presence but are still usually portable. Large plush toys from 90 cm upwards need plenty of space and are best suited as nursery décor or a permanent cuddle companion.
Not every stuffed animal can go in the washing machine. The specific care instructions are what matter: some teddy models can be washed at 30 °C, while Squishmallows should be hand washed according to the product information. For Monchhichi and certain decorative figures, only surface cleaning is recommended.
