The search for the perfect green pen can come with specific requirements. Whether for a whiteboard presentation, permanently labelling materials, or erasable notes on transparencies, Staedtler's Lumocolor series offers a solution for nearly any application. However, the differences between the models are crucial for the final result. This article serves as a guide to help you understand the features of the various green Staedtler Lumocolor pens and make an informed choice.
To find the right Staedtler marker in green, three criteria are particularly important: the type of ink, surface compatibility, and the shape of the tip.
The most fundamental decision concerns the permanence of the ink.
The marker's tip determines how you can write and draw with it.
Check which material the pen is intended for. While universal pens like the Lumocolor permanent adhere to almost all surfaces, a green whiteboard marker is intended exclusively for non-porous, smooth surfaces. Using a permanent marker on a whiteboard can cause permanent damage. For special applications like writing on glass and transparencies, both permanent and non-permanent versions are available.
Based on different areas of application, we present three models from the Lumocolor series here.

The main difference lies in the ink. Lumocolor permanent uses waterproof ink for durable labelling. Lumocolor non-permanent contains water-soluble ink that can be wiped off smooth surfaces with a damp cloth, making it suitable for temporary markings.
This is strongly discouraged. The permanent ink is designed for lasting adhesion and cannot be removed from a whiteboard surface, or only with aggressive solvents that can damage the coating. For whiteboards, use only designated whiteboard markers.
Many models in the Lumocolor series, including the permanent and non-permanent markers presented here, are refillable. This is an eco-friendly and cost-effective feature. Pay attention to the product description and compatibility with the corresponding Staedtler refill stations (e.g., 487 17 for permanent or 487 15 for non-permanent).
