1. Are waterproof mattress protectors breathable? Modern waterproof mattress protectors are designed to do both. They typically use a microporous membrane (often made of polyurethane) that is impermeable to liquid molecules but permeable to air and water vapour molecules. This allows for air exchange and helps reduce night sweats while keeping the mattress dry.
2. How do you properly wash a waterproof mattress protector? Always read the manufacturer's care label. As a general rule, wash the protector at the recommended temperature (often 40°C to 60°C) with a mild detergent. Avoid bleach or fabric softeners, as they can damage the waterproof membrane. Air-dry the protector or use a tumble dryer on low heat. High temperatures can make the membrane brittle and impair its function.
3. Does a waterproof mattress protector make noise when you move? Older models made of plastic-like materials could cause a crinkling or rustling noise with movement.
