WMF Induction Cookware Set: A Guide to Choosing Pots, Pans and Speciality Cookware

A WMF induction cookware set can make equipping your kitchen much easier. Even so, it is worth taking a close look at the set contents, materials and intended uses. A low bundle price does not automatically mean that every included item will be useful in everyday cooking. Conversely, a smaller set may not include important sizes.

Three issues in particular often lead to disappointing purchases:

  • Unsuitable sizes: A cookware set containing several small pots may be too limited for families. On the other hand, large 24-cm pots can take up unnecessary space in a small kitchen.
  • Confusing different coatings: Uncoated Cromargan stainless steel cookware is suitable for high temperatures and intensive use. Non-stick pans, by contrast, are designed for delicate foods and low-fat frying, but require careful temperature control.
  • Unclear hob and oven compatibility: “Suitable for all hob types” should explicitly include induction, gas, electric and ceramic hobs. You should also check the temperature limits for the pot, lid and handle.

The key selection criteria before buying

1. Hob compatibility and base construction

For induction hobs, the base must react magnetically and sit flat on the surface. WMF frequently uses the TransTherm universal base to distribute heat and ensure compatibility with different hob types. According to the product specifications, a suitable induction cookware set should work on induction, gas, electric and ceramic hobs if it is to be used flexibly in different kitchens.

You should also consider the diameter of your hob. A 28-cm pan, for example, is suitable for larger portions but requires a correspondingly large cooking zone. On smaller zones, heat distribution may be less even.

2. Choosing the right material and coating for your cooking style

Cromargan 18/10 stainless steel is specified for several WMF ranges. This material is rust-resistant, flavour-neutral and generally dishwasher-safe. Uncoated pots are suitable for soups, pasta, sauces and slow-cooked dishes. They are also more tolerant of higher temperatures than coated pans.

With a WMF pan set, on the other hand, aluminium bodies and a non-stick coating are often the main features. According to the product specifications, the three-layer PermaDur coating on WMF PermaDur Excellent pans is designed for delicate foods such as fish. The temperature guidance must be followed: the pans are heat-resistant up to 260 °C, but are oven-safe only up to 70 °C. Severe overheating can damage the coating.

The WMF Devil 3-Piece Pan Set uses a ceramic, PTFE-free non-stick coating according to the product specifications. It includes two pans measuring 24 and 28 cm, plus a turner. The pans are oven-safe up to 250 °C. The same rules apply to both types of coating: do not heat them empty for prolonged periods, do not use sharp-edged metal utensils and avoid unnecessarily high hob settings.

3. Set contents, cleaning and storage

Do not compare only the number of pieces, but also how useful they will actually be. Dishwasher-safe cookware reduces the effort involved in cleaning, although frequent washing can affect the appearance of stainless steel and glass over time. Mild detergents and avoiding abrasive sponges are therefore advisable.

In small kitchens, a stackable cookware set is particularly practical. According to the product description, the WMF Compact Cuisine Set is designed so that several pieces of the same diameter can be nested together to save space. When storing the set, you should still take the lids and handles into account. A set only saves space if it actually fits in your available cupboard.

Frequently asked questions about WMF induction cookware sets

Is every WMF induction cookware set suitable for induction?

No. Many current ranges are designed for induction, but compatibility should always be stated in the technical product specifications. For the sets mentioned, the term “TransTherm universal base” indicates compatibility with induction, gas, electric and ceramic hobs.

How long does an induction pan set last?

Its lifespan depends on the material, temperature and care. Uncoated stainless steel pans can last for many years when used correctly. With non-stick pans, overheating, heating them empty and using metal utensils should be avoided. The WMF PermaDur Excellent and WMF Devil sets each specify a two-year manufacturer’s warranty covering materials, workmanship and non-stick performance. The warranty terms should be checked before purchase.

Does induction use less energy with a suitable cookware set?

Induction hobs transfer heat directly to a suitable magnetic pan base. Cookware that sits flat on the hob and a correctly sized cooking zone can help support efficient heat transfer. However, actual consumption also depends on the hob model, power setting, cooking time, pan size and whether a lid is used. Terms such as “energy-efficient” should therefore be considered in the context of the specific product and usage conditions.
