Yin-Yang Hot Pot 28 cm: What really matters when choosing a divided hotpot

A Yin-Yang Hot Pot 28 cm is designed for sharing meals: for example, a mild broth can simmer in one half of the pot while the other contains a spicy base. This makes the Chinese hotpot an appealing choice for families, couples and groups of friends. However, some product claims can quickly lead to the wrong purchase.

Before buying, you should therefore look beyond the divided design. The key factors are the material, base construction, hob compatibility, cleaning and the size that can actually be used.

Typical pitfalls when buying a divided soup pot

1. “Suitable for induction” without checking the base

Not all stainless steel is automatically suitable for induction. An induction hob requires the base to react magnetically and sit flat on the cooking zone. A hotpot for induction therefore needs a suitable multi-layer or bonded base. If this information is missing, the pot may heat slowly or not at all.

The base is also important with a hotpot for gas hobs. It should sit securely and distribute heat evenly. With electric and ceramic hobs, it is also important for the base to be as flat as possible, so that heat transfers properly and the glass surface is not put under unnecessary strain.

2. Confusing coatings with easy care

Non-stick coatings can make cleaning easier, but they require gentle handling. Metal utensils, high heat and abrasive cleaners can damage the surface. If you are looking for an uncoated stainless steel hotpot, check that the material is clearly specified.

According to the product details, the MAXCOOK 28cm Divided Hot Pot uses 304 stainless steel without a non-stick coating. This does not mean that discolouration or residue can never occur. Water deposits, starch and minerals can leave visible marks even on stainless steel. They can usually be treated with a suitable mild cleaning product or a little vinegar.

3. The outside diameter says little about the space needed on the table

28 cm usually refers to the diameter of the pot, not its total length including the handles. For a hotpot meal, you should take the width of the cooking surface and the distance from other pots into account. The number of people adding ingredients to the pot at the same time also affects the most suitable size.

A hotpot for family gatherings should offer enough capacity without extending beyond the cooking zone. On smaller tables, a 28 cm model may be more practical than a larger pot, as bowls, plates and sauces also need space.

The most important technical specifications

Material: understanding 304 stainless steel

The designation 304 stainless steel, also known as SUS304, describes a commonly used grade of stainless steel for cookware. According to the manufacturer’s information, the MAXCOOK model mentioned uses food-safe 304 stainless steel. A three-layer construction is also specified.

It is important to remember that the material specification does not replace checking the workmanship, handle attachments, divider and lid. Look for:

  • clear information about the grade of stainless steel,
  • a sturdy, neatly finished divider,
  • securely attached handles,
  • a flat bonded base,
  • a lid that sits securely.

Divided design: two broths in one pot

The benefit of a divided hotpot is that you can prepare two broths at the same time. They can simmer separately without requiring two pots on the hob. This is practical when people have different taste preferences.

The divider should be joined to the base of the pot as tightly as possible. Also check whether both sides are large enough for the ingredients you plan to use. Very large pieces of meat or vegetables can be awkward to handle in narrow sections of the pot.

Lid and cleaning

A hotpot with a glass lid lets you keep an eye on the broth without having to lift the lid repeatedly. According to the product description, the MAXCOOK 28 cm pot is dishwasher-safe. For a consistent appearance, however, hand-washing with a soft sponge is still recommended.

Clean the pot thoroughly before using it for the first time. The product information also points out that new stainless steel products can occasionally have traces of polishing wax. Cleaning with warm water followed by drying is therefore part of the preparation.

Practical use and care

For even results, place the pot in the centre of the cooking zone and heat the broth gradually at first. With induction, the zone you use should match the diameter of the base. On gas hobs, the flame must not extend beyond the base of the pot.

Also bear in mind:

  • Do not heat an empty stainless steel pot or hotpot at high heat for an extended period.
  • Only handle the handles and lid with suitable oven gloves while cooking.
  • Move hot liquids carefully, particularly when the pot is completely full.
  • Dry the pot after washing to reduce water marks.
  • Do not use wire wool or harsh abrasive cleaners on stainless steel or coated surfaces.
  • Do not continue using a glass lid if it has cracks or chips.

Yin-Yang Hot Pot 28 cm FAQ

Will a Yin-Yang Hot Pot 28 cm fit on any induction hob?

Not automatically. A magnetic, flat base and a suitably sized cooking zone are essential. Check the manufacturer’s information and, if in doubt, test whether a magnet sticks to the base of the pot. With a multi-zone appliance, positioning the pot centrally may also be important.

How many people can use a 28 cm hotpot?

This depends on the capacity, the ingredients and how you want to arrange everything on the table. A 28 cm model is often easier to handle for couples and smaller groups. For regular family gatherings, a 30 cm pot or a model with a stated capacity may be more suitable.

Is a stainless steel hotpot easier to care for than a coated pot?

An uncoated stainless steel hotpot is less susceptible to damage from metal utensils than a coated model. However, it may show water marks, starch deposits or heat-related discolouration. Gentle cleaning and drying the pot immediately help maintain an even-looking surface.
